Question
I was told my website was live now, but I'm still seeing my old website. Why?
Answer
There's a certain amount of irony when we say that just about everyone in the whole world can see your new website with the possible exception of you and your employees. Here's why. You likely visited your website shortly before all the technical details of the switch to the new website servers were put in place. Using a technique to more efficiently deliver website pages, your Internet Service Provider may have cached the information of your pre-MarketingIdeasForPrinters.com website in their servers. This cached information usually expires within 72 hours (but rarely more than 24 hours), and at the time the cached information expires you will then see your website provided by MarketingIdeasForPrinters.com. Please note that anyone using the same Internet Service Provider as you will be accessing the same cached info, and therefore also see the same website information you see.
Here are two ways we can show you that your website is live with MarketingIdeasForPrinters.com:
- Open an incognito or private browsing window in your web browser.
- Enter your website address (e.g.,
mywebsiteaddress.com
). - This bypasses the cached version and retrieves the most up-to-date version of your website directly from the server.
- Visit What’s My DNS.
- Enter your website address (e.g.,
mywebsiteaddress.com
) in the search field. - Select "Search" to run the report.
- Look for the A records that appear. If they reference MI4P's A record of 69.20.103.147, it confirms your website is live on the MarketingIdeasForPrinters.com server.
Additional Notes:
If your ISP’s cached information hasn’t yet expired, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll see your new website. You can also clear your browser cache to ensure your browser isn’t holding onto outdated information. However, remember that ISP caching is separate from your browser cache.
