Font Requirements for uDesignIt! Templates

When creating documents for uDesignIt!, make sure the fonts you use are compatible with our server environment.

The uDesignIt! server is Windows-based, so:

• All fonts used in your document must be installed on our servers.
• Fonts must be compatible with Windows.

✅Recommended Format: Static OpenType Fonts

👉 Static OpenType fonts are the preferred choice for uDesignIt! projects. They work on both Mac and Windows, making them especially useful when your original document was created on a Mac.

Provide a separate font file for each style used in your template, such as Regular, Bold, or Italic.

Using the same compatible fonts in your original document and uDesignIt! project helps maintain consistent text appearance and layout.

❗Variable Fonts Are Not Supported

uDesignIt! does not support variable font files.

A variable font contains multiple adjustable styles in a single file. Design applications may let you change properties such as weight, width, or slant using sliders, rather than selecting separate font files.

For uDesignIt!, provide static versions of each required style instead. An OpenType font can be variable or static, so confirm that your files are static before submitting them.

If Your Fonts Are Not Available in OpenType

We may be able to substitute an OpenType equivalent from our licensed font library, which includes Adobe Font Folio.

If a substitution is needed, we will work with you to review the available options.

Avoid Converting Font Files

⚠ Important Disclaimer About Font Conversion

• We generally do not recommend converting fonts between formats such as PostScript, TrueType, and OpenType.
• Each format contains internal fields, flags, and attributes specific to its format and platform, carefully configured by font designers and foundries.
• Conversion tools may not preserve or correctly configure these properties, causing compatibility or rendering problems.
• Converted fonts are considered modified files, which the original font foundry may not support.
• Conversion does not guarantee that a font will work correctly in uDesignIt! or other applications.
• Whenever possible, obtain a compatible font directly from its provider or use an approved alternative.

Preferred Font Formats

The preferred formats, in order, are:

1. Static OpenType — the recommended format.

• Highest flexibility
• Highest accuracy
• Best overall compatibility

2. Windows TrueType

3. Windows Type 1 (PostScript)

Before Submitting Your Project

To help ensure accurate rendering of your uDesignIt! template:

• Include the font files for every style used in your template.
• Confirm that all fonts are Windows-compatible.
• Use static OpenType fonts whenever possible.
• Do not submit variable font files.
• Avoid font conversion, as converted files may not work correctly or be supported by the font foundry.
• Contact us before converting fonts or choosing substitutes.
