We may tell you sometimes that your request is "on the development list", or that we're putting your request on the development list. Here's a little "peek behind the curtain", so to speak, at what the development list is and how we use it.
What The Development List Is
Simply put, our development list is our central collection of every idea for improving our websites.
We consider ourselves to be in a rather enviable position — we have plenty of ideas for improving the websites. Some of the ideas are ones we've come up with on our own, but many come directly from customers like you. Many of the requests we get are for quick updates that we can do on the spot, but sometimes the update that we need to make moves a bit beyond the "quick fix" range. In those cases, we place the request on our list as a permanent reminder of something we'd like to do when we are able.
How We Use The Development List
We get a lot of excellent feedback from our customers, so it would take us several years to develop every single idea on our list!
To help us make sure we're tackling the most important projects first, we try to choose projects that strike a good balance across several criteria, such as its expected value to its intended users and how long it will take to implement it. In other words, what will give us the biggest bang for our buck?
The development list is for our own internal use only. We'd love to show you all of the great things we have lined up for you, but we'd like to keep it a surprise (especially to our competitors).
What It Means For You
Ok, first the bad news: it's possible that, based on its relative value compared to our other potential projects, your own idea may not be implemented as soon as you hope, and possibly not at all. And for that, we sincerely are sorry.
But the good news is that it's very possible it's getting pushed back by even more significant projects, many of which are expected to benefit you and all of our customers in a powerful way.
And the best benefit of using the development list? Our "biggest bang" approach prevents the "squeaky wheel" problem — choosing updates based on who is asking for them the most or the loudest, but not necessarily the ones that bring the biggest improvements to the site overall.
Whenever an update is made, we'll list it in the Website Release Notes. Be sure to check it regularly in order to stay informed about the latest improvements to your website.
